White Sox OF Griffey leaves game

Aug 2, 2008 - 10:08 PM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Chicago White Sox outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. left Saturday's contest against the Kansas City Royals with cramping in his right leg.

The injury was heat-related, as the heat index was 111 degrees when the game started.

Griffey, who is listed as day-to-day, was acquired by the White Sox on Thursday from the Cincinnati Reds for righthander Nick Masset and minor league infielder Danny Richar.

The 38-year-old Griffey, who has 608 career home runs, collected a pair of RBI singles in his first game with his new club as the White Sox posted a 4-2 victory over the Royals on Friday.

Griffey, who was 0-for-2 before leaving Saturday's contest, is batting .249 with 15 home runs and 55 RBI over 102 total games with Chicago and Cincinnati this season.

The future Hall of Famer was not the only victim of the heat, as Royals starter Kyle Davies also left the game with cramping. The righthander was removed after 5 1/3 innings with cramps in both calves.
