Mientkiewicz placed on bereavement list

LOUIS (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz was placed on the bereavement list in order to be with his wife, Jodi, who is in Allegheny General Hospital recovering from heart surgery.Mientkiewicz, who is batting .285 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 98 games, was placed on the list Monday. He will be eligible to return on Friday when the team opens a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
In a corresponding move, the Pirates recalled outfielder Nyjer Morgan from Class AAA Indianapolis. Morgan went 0-for-4 with a walk while batting leadoff during Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
