MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates welcomed back a pair of pitchers Saturday, recalling starter Tom Gorzelanny from the minors and activating closer Matt Capps from the 15-day disabled list.

Gorzelanny will return to the mound immediately, as the 26-year-old lefthander will start Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pittsburgh's Opening Day starter, Gorzelanny was absolutely awful prior to his demotion to Class AAA Indianapolis six weeks ago. The southpaw made 17 starts for the Pirates, going 6-7 with a 6.57 ERA while allowing 161 baserunners - including 61 walks - in just 87 2/3 innings.

But Gorzelanny, who won 14 games last season, appeared to correct his problems at Indianapolis, where he went 3-1 with a 2.06 ERA in seven starts. The four-year veteran improved his control in the minors, yielding just four walks in 35 innings.

Capps had been sidelined since July 2 with a right shoulder injury, which halted a productive season for the 24-year-old righthander. In 37 games with Pittsburgh, Capps went 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 17 saves.

To make room for Capps on the roster, the Pirates optioned pitcher Romulo Sanchez to Indianapolis.
