Twins activate OF Cuddyer from DL

Sep 13, 2008 - 7:31 PM BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Twins now have one more bat for the stretch run.

The Twins activated Michael Cuddyer from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. The veteran outfielder had been sidelined with nagging injuries since June 30.

He suffered a strained tendon in his left index finger - the same finger on which he suffered a laceration that kept him out for three weeks in April - and was expected to be back in August. However, his return to the Twins' lineup was delayed when he suffered a separate injury during a rehabilitation stint. Playing for Class AAA Rochester on August 8, Cuddyer was hit by a line drive and suffered a fractured bone in his left foot.

With 15 games remaining in the season and the Twins trailing the Chicago White Sox by one game in the American League Central, the Twins could use the addition of his bat. Prior to getting hurt, Cuddyer was having a sub-par season, hitting .252 with three homers and 35 RBI in 62 games. But over his previous two seasons, he averaged 20 homers and 95 RBI while hitting .280.
