Pirates sign IF Vazquez to two-year deal
Dec 13, 2008 - 7:23 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday completed a two-year, $4 million deal with free-agent infielder Ramon Vazquez, according to numerous reports.Vazquez, 32, positioned himself well for his impending free agency by batting a career-best .290 with six home runs and 40 RBI in 300 at-bats with the Texas Rangers last season.
He has logged time at all four infield positions over an eight-year career with five different teams.
A career .257 hitter with 21 homers and 160 RBI in 595 games, Vazquez will provide insurance for the Pirates should the club trade shortstop Jack Wilson, as has been rumored all winter.
