Mariners agree with RHP Heilman

Jan 21, 2009 - 1:11 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners on Tuesday avoided arbitration with reliever Aaron Heilman, agreeing with the righthander on a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Heilman was Seattle's lone arbitration-eligible player. The 30-year-old went 3-8 with a 5.21 ERA in 78 appearances with the New York Mets last season.

He was acquired in the three-team, 12-player deal that sent righthanders J.J. Putz and Sean Green, as well as outfielder Jeremy Reed to New York in December.

Entering his seventh season, Heilman is 22-33 with nine saves and a 4.24 ERA in 305 games with New York.
