Lakers to announce F Walton signing Thursday
Jul 11, 2007 - 5:20 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers will officially announce the signing of forward Luke Walton at a press conference on Thursday, the team announced Wednesday.Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the Los Angeles Times reported earlier this month that the unrestricted free agent has inked a six-year, $30-million deal to stay with the team.
Over his four-year Laker career, Walton has averaged just 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds while playing just over 18 minutes per game. However, the 27-year-old had career-high averages of 11.4 points, five rebounds and 4.3 assists over 33 minutes per game last season.
The new contract would more than triple the reported $1.4 million he made last season.
NBA teams could not officially announce signings until Wednesday, when the free-agent moratorium ended.
No one has shouted yet.
