Lakers acquire F Ariza from Magic for F Cook, G Evans

Nov 20, 2007 - 11:26 PM EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday acquired forward Trevor Ariza from the Orlando Magic for forward Brian Cook and guard Maurice Evans.

The 6-8 Ariza has played in 11 games this season with the Magic, averaging 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds.

Drafted by the New York Knicks in 2004, Ariza has averaged 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 205 career games with the Knicks and Magic.

Cook has played in six games - including two starts - this season with the Lakers, averaging 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.

In his fourth season, the 6-9 Cook has played in 259 career regular-season games, all with the Lakers, averaging 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds.

Evans has appeared in seven games this season with the Lakers, averaging 4.4 points and 1.7 assists. The 6-5 guard has appeared in 238 career regular-season games with Minnesota, Sacramento, Detroit and the Lakers, averaging 6.3 points.

"Brian helps bolster our frontcourt," Magic general manager Otis Smith said. "He is a power forward who shoots the ball extremely well, while also bringing added toughness to our roster.

"Maurice is a tremendous athlete, a solid defender and capable of playing multiple positions. Both Brian and Maurice fit in very well with what we are trying to accomplish."

Also on Tuesday, the Magic waived forward Bo Outlaw, who has averaged 2.0 points in two games this season.
