Report: Lakers' Bynum to have surgery
May 18, 2008 - 8:53 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Wednesday, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times. The procedure will be performed by Dr. David Altchek in New York. The report, published Sunday, also added that the operation involves cleaning some rough spots and fraying on the underside of his kneecap.
A recovery timetable will be determined following the procedure.
Bynum sustained the injury on January 13 at home against the Memphis Grizzlies and was scheduled to miss eight to 12 weeks.
But the 20-year-old Bynum hasn't played since, putting a stop to his best season as a pro, in which he averaged 13.1 points and 10.2 boards through 35 games.
Bynum was expected to rejoin the Lakers for the stretch run prior to the start of the playoffs but wasn't cleared to practice by doctors last month.
Los Angeles clinched a spot in the Western Conference finals Friday by defeating Utah in Game Six of the conference semifinals.
No one has shouted yet.
