NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks will shut down top pick Danilo Gallinari for the remainder of the NBA's Summer League with a sore lower back, New York Newsday reported Wednesday.
Gallinari, 19, is scheduled to play for Italy in next month's Olympics in Beijing. The Summer League continues through Sunday in Las Vegas.
"He is listed as doubtful for the rest of the week," a Knicks spokesman told Newsday. "He had a precautionary MRI - there were no specific findings. He will rest and have treatments the remainder of the week here in Las Vegas before heading to Italy (to begin preparation for the Olympics)."
Gallinari, the sixth overall pick in last month's draft, was injured during the Knicks' Summer League opener on Monday, a 97-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. He rebounded from a scoreless first half to finish with 14 points, making 5-of-7 shots after the intermission.
Gallinari did not dress for Wednesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs.
