EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton on Friday underwent successful surgery to remove bone spurs, scar tissue and to clean up some cartilage debris from his right ankle.
The hour-long procedure was performed by Dr. David Thordarson at the University of Southern California.
The 6-8 Walton, who is expected to make a full recovery, will rehabilitate for approximately six weeks and be ready for the start of training camp in October.
Walton, 28, has averaged 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his five seasons with the Lakers, who lost to the Boston Celtics in last month's NBA Finals. A second-round pick of Los Angeles in the 2003 draft, Walton has become a staple in coach Phil Jackson's triangle offense.
