Lakers officially sign G Vujacic
Jul 28, 2008 - 9:24 PM EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers made it official Monday, re-signing guard Sasha Vujacic to a multi-year contract.Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Press-Enterprise reported last week that Vujacic agreed to a three-year, $15 million contract.
Vujacic initially rebuffed the Lakers' original offer of three years for $12 million, leading the 3-point specialist and his representatives to threaten to follow recent NBA defectors such as Josh Childress and Carlos Delfino, who each received lucrative deals to play overseas.
The 6-7 Vujacic averaged a career-high 8.8 points last season and shot 45 percent from the field, including 44 percent from the arc. He earned the nickname "The Machine" because of his prolific shooting which helped Los Angeles earn a berth in the NBA Finals.
