NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Like father, like son.

The New York Knicks acquired forward Patrick Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets on Friday for the draft rights to center Frederic Weis.

Ewing is the son of former Knicks great Patrick Ewing, who will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on September 5.

"Coming to the Knicks, and hopefully being able to contribute, means a lot to me," the younger Ewing said. "It has always been my dream to play for this team. My goal is to show the coaches I can play and do all that I can to help the team win some games."

The 6-8, 240-pound Ewing originally was picked by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of this year's draft and traded to the Rockets on August 14 as part of a multi-player deal.

After spending the first two years of his college career at Indiana, Ewing transferred to Georgetown, his father's alma mater. As a senior, Ewing averaged 6.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, winning the Big East Conference's Sixth Man of the Year Award.

The Knicks took Weis in the first round of the 1999 draft. But it turned out to a disastrous pick, as the Frenchman never made it to the NBA.
