Lakers G Farmar has knee surgery, out eight weeks
Dec 24, 2008 - 10:35 PM EL SEGUNDO, California (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Farmar underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. The operation, performed by Dr. Clarence Shields of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group, will sideline Farmar for about eight weeks.
Farmar suffered the injury during Friday's 89-87 loss to the Miami Heat. The Lakers announced two days ago that Farmar was examined by two doctors, both of whom agreed that he suffered a torn lateral meniscus and recommended surgery.
A three-year veteran, Farmar initially balked at the notion of surgery. But the backup point guard has missed Los Angeles' last three games.
Farmar, who backs up Derek Fisher, is averaging 7.9 points on 40.5 percent shooting this season.
