NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant regained the NBA's top spot for having the most popular jersey, the league announced Wednesday.
An 11-time All-Star who arguably is the game's best player, Bryant knocked down Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett to second in the rankings.
Bryant also had the most popular jersey in 2007. Two seasons ago, Bryant changed from No. 8 to No. 24.
The league's rankings are based on sales at the NBA Store in New York City and NBAStore.com since the start of the 2008-09 season through January 2009.
For the second straight season, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers held the No. 3 spot. Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets and Allen Iverson of the Detroit Pistons were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The league also announced December was the best sales month in history for both the NBA Store and NBAStore.com, with sales up 10 percent over the same time period last year.
