Cavaliers F James, Lakers F Gasol honored by NBA
Feb 9, 2009 - 9:44 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol were named Players of the Week for the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively, on Monday.James helped the Central Division-leading Cavaliers to a 2-1 week by averaging 33.7 points to go along with 9.0 assists and 8.0 rebounds.
With his 30th point on Tuesday against Toronto, the former No. 1 overall pick became the youngest player in NBA history to reach 12,000 points.
Gasol averaged 26.0 points and ranked third in the league with 13.8 rebounds as Los Angeles posted a 4-0 record on an East Coast road swing. At 41-9, the Lakers own the NBA's best record.
Other nominees included Detroit's Richard Hamilton, Golden State's Stephen Jackson, Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets, Memphis' O.J. Mayo, New Jersey's Devin Harris and Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz.
