Streaking Memphis hosts UAB

Jan 16, 2007 - 4:34 PM Uab (10-7) at No. 18 Memphis (13-3) 9:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Off to a fast start in Conference USA, No. 18 Memphis looks to keep alive a pair of streaks when it meets Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday.

The Tigers (13-3, 3-0 USA) have won five straight since a 79-71 loss at No. 12 Arizona on December 20. They also will be trying to extend their recent run at FedEx Forum, where they have won their last 22 games, the fourth longest home winning streak in the country.

With a starting lineup that features three sophomores and a freshman, it figured that Memphis would need some time to come together as a team. The Tigers seem to be on their way - especially on the offensive end, where they are shooting 52.4 percent from the field during their streak.

Sophomore guard Chris Douglas-Roberts is the catlyst for the Tigers, averaging 15.7 points and 4.2 rebounds. He made 10-of-14 shots in a pair of wins last week, including a 75-62 victory over Southern Miss in which he scored 23 points.

UAB (10-7, 2-1) has won two straight games and is led by junior guard Paul Delaney III who is averaging 17.6 points and 5.7 assists.

Memphis won two of three meetings between the teams last season, including a 57-46 victory in the Conference USA tournament championship. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 22-10.
