Report: Sutton to coach at USF

Dec 26, 2007 - 10:54 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Former Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton reportedly will come out of retirement to coach at San Francisco in an attempt to reach 800 wins.

CBS Sports reported on its web site that current San Francisco coach Jessie Evans will announce his resignation on Wednesday and be replaced by Sutton on an interim basis.

San Francisco has not confirmed the report.

Sutton, 71, who also coached at Arkansas, Kentucky and Creighton, ranks fifth on the all-time Division I wins list with 798. He made three Final Four appearances during a 36-year coaching career.

Sutton stepped aside at Oklahoma State in February 2006 after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor aggravated charge of drunken driving.

He officially retired before the start of the 2006-07 season, handing over the Cowboys' program to his son, Sean.

San Francisco is 4-8 under Evans, who is in his fourth season at the school. The Dons have lost five of their last six games.
