George Washington eases past cold-shooting Rhode Island
Jan 19, 2007 - 4:14 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- With its offense struggling, George Washington relied on defense to stay unbeaten in the Atlantic 10 Conference.Kimberly Beck scored 17 points and Jessica Adair added 16 to lead the 13th-ranked Colonials to a 61-45 victory over Rhode Island.
George Washington (15-2, 4-0 A-10) limited Rhode Island to 15 percent shooting (4-of-26) to take a 24-13 halftime lead.
Overall, the Rams shot 29 percent (17-of-59) and made just one 3-pointer in 11 attempts, helping negate their 43-33 advantage on the backboards.
Kenan Cole finished with 11 points for GW, which struggled at the line, hitting 14-of-26.
Safi Mojidi led Rhode Island (4-14, 2-2) with 11 points, but she typified the Rams' shooting woes, connecting on just 3-of-14 shots.
