No. 1 UConn races past Cincy and into semis

Mar 8, 2014 - 10:49 PM Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Breanna Stewart scored 22 points and No. 1 Connecticut raced to a 72-42 win over Cincinnati in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Huskies (32-0) pushed their winning streak to 38 games and moved on to play No. 24 Rutgers in the semifinals on Sunday. Rutgers routed SMU 68-49 on Saturday.

Bria Hartley added 17 points for the reigning national champions, who were coming off Monday's 20-point win over No. 3 Louisville to clinch the first American Athletic Conference regular-season title and wrap up their third unbeaten regular season in six years.

Jeanise Randolph had 14 points to lead eighth-seeded Cincinnati (13-18).

The Bearcats beat UCF in the first round on Friday to snap a two-game losing streak, but never led against the Huskies and shot just 32 percent.

UConn's lead was in single digits until a 10-0 run led by Stewart's six points pushed it to 14 with five minutes left in the first half.

The Huskies led by double digits the rest of the way. It was 37-17 at halftime and their lead ballooned as high as 34 points.
