MISSOULA, Mont.(AP) -- Steve Pfahler caught two second-half touchdown passes Saturday to lead Montana to a 38-0 season-opening victory over Division II Western State, Colo.
Montana (1-0) started out slow on offense, scoring only 10 points in the first half, but the Grizzly defense smothered Western State (0-2), holding the Mountaineers to 116 yards of total offense.
Chase Reynolds paced Montana's attack with 100 yards on 18 carries, while Tyler Palmer hauled in six catches for a game-high 87 yards.
Shaun Sittrop led Western State with nine catches for 42 yards.
After a scoreless first quarter, Montana got on the board with 13:09 to play in the first half on a 31-yard Brody McKnight field goal. Reynolds put Montana up 10-0 on a 5-yard run with 3:04 left in the half.
Pfahler scored both his touchdowns in the third quarter.
