Doornbos becomes The Citadel's defensive coordinator

(Sports Network) - The Citadel's football program promoted Denny Doornbos to defensive coordinator on Friday after losing Josh Conklin to the University of Tennessee.Doornbos coaches the defensive linemen and serves as assistant head coach. He is in his third season at The Citadel and has over 30 years of coaching experience, including as defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois, Army and UTEP.
"We are excited that Denny will be promoted to defensive coordinator," head coach Kevin Higgins said. "He was very instrumental in implementing our current defensive package."
Conklin left The Citadel to become Tennessee's safeties coach.
Last season, The Citadel allowed 23.4 points and 343.8 yards a game to rank second and third, respectively, in the Southern Conference.
