Burress expects to get new deal done
Jun 19, 2008 - 4:01 PM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Despite missing the team's mandatory minicamp, New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is not concerned about his contract status.Burress thinks he will get a new deal done before the defending Super Bowl champions begin their training camp on July 25.
"Honestly, I think my situation is going to be rectified before training camp," Burress said in an interview with Philadelphia radio station WIP earlier this week. "I'm not going to worry about it, but I did state that I was unhappy with my current situation with my contract. It'll be worked out."
Burress caught a game-winning 13-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining in the Giants' 17-14 victory over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. He has three years remaining on his six-year, $25 million contract.
In the interview with WIP, Burress expressed a desire to remain with the Giants. He has spent the last three seasons in New York after playing in Pittsburgh for the first five years of his career.
"I don't want to go anywhere else," said Burress, the Giants' leading receiver last year with 70 catches for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns. "I made that very evident. If I wanted to go somewhere else or I didn't want to be there, I would have let that be known."
No one has shouted yet.
