EAST RUTHERFORD (Ticker) -- After sitting on the bench for most of the last four years, New York Giants backup quarterback Jared Lorenzen will get a chance to play somewhere else.

The Giants on Monday waived Lorenzen, who joined the team as a rookie free agent in 2004, the same year the franchise acquired quarterback Eli Manning. Lorenzen did not play in 2004, then spent the next three seasons as Manning's backup, playing in only four games.

During his tenure with the Giants, Lorenzen threw only eight passes, completing four for 28 yards. He had one regular-season rushing attempt for minus-two yards.

The Kentucky product played in the first two games last season for the eventual Super Bowl champions, but he was inactive for the final 14 regular-season games and all four playoff contests.

Lorenzen became the odd man out in New York after the Giants signed David Carr to a one-year deal in the offseason and drafted another former Kentucky quarterback in Andre Woodson.
