LANDOVER, Maryland (Ticker) -- The Jim Zorn era is off to a smashing start in Washington. A week after an effective performance in the preseason opener, the Washington Redskins' first-team offense again was successful on Saturday night.
Washington's top two quarterbacks, Jason Campbell and Todd Collins, combined to go 15-for-21 in the first half of the Redskins' 17-14 win over the Buffalo Bills.
With Campbell and Collins in the game, the Redskins scored on two long drives - one of 12 plays and another of eight. A year ago, after Campbell suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 12th game, Collins led Washington to four wins - and a surprising playoff berth.
Last Sunday, the Redskins (2-0) beat the Colts in the Hall of Fame Game with Campbell and Collins completing 10- of-11 passes. Rookie Colt Brennan, a sixth-round draft choice who threw two late touchdowns in the win over Indianapolis, wasn't nearly as sharp Saturday, completing 4-of-8 passes.
The Bills (0-1) played their first-team offense and their revamped defense for just under a quarter. Linebacker Kawika Mitchell, who played for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants in 2007, and defensive tackle Marcus Stroud, obtained in a trade with Jacksonville, didn't have a tackle.
Bills quarterback Trent Edwards, who as a rookie started nine games, including the last five, struggled by completing just 1-of-5 passes before giving way to J.P. Losman, who was 7-for-9.
Washington wide receiver Antwaan Randle El injured his right wrist in the first quarter. X-rays were negative. The Redskins played without cornerback Carlos Rogers and safety LaRon Landry while Buffalo without wide receiver Josh Reed.
Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor, who arrived in a trade with Miami on the first day of training camp, didn't register a tackle, but did cause two Buffalo false starts in the first quarter.
