EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New York Giants placekicker Lawrence Tynes on Friday underwent an exploratory arthroscopic procedure on his left knee, which revealed no structural damage.

The team issued a brief statement that Tynes will continue to treat the soreness in his knee through a rehabilitation program. No timetable was given for his recovery.

Tynes, who hurt his knee in practice at the University at Albany on August 9, will miss his second straight preseason game Saturday night when the Giants take on the New York Jets. Josh Huston will fill handle the kicking duties.

On Thursday, the Star-Ledger reported Tynes' injury could be severe enough to land him on season-ending injured reserve.

Following Thursday's practice, coach Tom Coughlin said there was no update on Tynes, who also sat out Monday's victory over the Cleveland Browns.

"I don't know what to tell you there," Coughlin said. "He says he is (better), but they haven't given him the green light."

Last season, the 30-year-old Tynes kicked a 47-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game and send the Giants to the Super Bowl. He was rewarded with a five-year, $7 million contract extension in February.
