Giants RB Jacobs to undergo MRI
Nov 17, 2008 - 8:37 PM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs did not seem worried after sitting out most of the second half in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens with swelling in his knee. The Giants, however, were concerned enough to send Jacobs for a precautionary MRI exam on Monday.
"There is a little swelling," New York coach Tom Coughlin said. "He is walking really well. They are going to do all of the tests. But hopefully we can get this under control."
Jacobs seemed well on the way to becoming the first running back in 29 games to run for 100 yards against the Ravens, who came into Sunday boasting the NFL's top run defense.
But Jacobs was limited to two carries in the second half and finished with 73 yards and only 11 attempts. He scored two touchdowns in the first quarter as the Giants scored on their first three possessions to build a 20-0 lead.
"It wasn't anything bad but it made no sense to go back out there and run on it," Jacobs said. "I could have if I had to but we have two other guys and they went out and did their thing."
Jacobs is part of the Giants' "Earth, Wind and Fire" backfield that also includes Ahmad Bradshaw and Derrick Ward and leads the league in rushing.
New York (9-1) rushed for 207 yards against the Ravens, the fifth time it has surpassed 200 yards on the ground this season.
No one has shouted yet.
