EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was undergoing tests on his injured hamstring Monday.
Burress was hurt on the third play of Sunday's 37-29 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he would not know the severity of the injury until the tests are complete on Burress, who was unable to practice last Thursday and Friday.
"It is the one thing that I was hoping against hope that was not going to happen," Coughlin said of the abrupt exit by Burress in Sunday's game. "He has been so resilient and so tough under any circumstance. When you ask Plaxico even when he has had a week where he has been injured, he is going to play if he can play."
Coughlin said he did not think Burress made the injury worse by trying to play.
"I don't think so. But we are going to have to wait and see based on today," he said.
The Giants' leading receiver with 35 catches, 454 yards and four touchdowns, Burress has at least one reception in 115 consecutive games.
Coughlin also said he is hopeful that running back Brandon Jacobs will play in Sunday's game at Washington.
Although he was listed as probably for the Cardinals game, Jacobs did not even dress.
I am optimistic always," Coughlin said. "I'm saying yes, but again, we will have to see. That is all I can tell you about that stuff."
Closing in on his second straight 1,000-yard season, Jacobs has rushed for 879 yards.
