Giants RB Jacobs dealing with knee injury

Dec 8, 2008 - 11:28 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is day-to-day after injuring his left knee in Sunday's 20-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jacobs left the game in the third quarter after banging his knee against the turf. The 6-4, 265-pound Jacobs ran for 52 yards on 10 carries before departing.

He is scheduled to undergo an MRI. It is not the same injury that forced him to miss the Week 12 win over Arizona.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin was vague in his description of Jacobs' status for Sunday night's game against the rival Dallas Cowboys in his weekly news conference. The Giants wrapped up the NFC East title later in the day when the Cowboys lost to Pittsburgh.

"Jacobs is sore. He is sore. This is an on-going kind of thing. And hopefully we can get that under control and he will be ready to go," Coughlin said. "He is sore today.

"If he is ready to go, he'll go. If there is an issue with any player that they are not medically ready to go, then we will be consistent with that as well."

Jacobs told Newsday that he thinks he will play.

"I've been dealing with it for this long," Jacobs said, "and I'll continue to deal with it."

Jacobs is fourth in the league with 12 touchdowns and his 1,002 yards are good for the eighth-best in the NFL.
