Former Giants WR Ingram arrested

Jan 3, 2009 - 6:34 PM FLINT, Michigan (Ticker) - Disgraced former New York Giants receiver Mark Ingram is back in custody after he was arrested by United States marshals Friday night.

Ingram had been on the run for nearly a month after he was supposed to begin serving a sentence for bank fraud and money laundering.

Marshals tracked Ingram to a hotel room in Flint - near his home in Grand Blanc, Michigan - following an extensive manhunt that began when he failed to show up at a federal prison in Kentucky on December 5.

Since ending his career in 1996, Ingram has endured numerous legal problems that have landed him in and out of jail. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to cashing counterfeit checks and laundering money he believed to be proceeds from narcotics deals.

A member of the Giants' 1991 Super Bowl-winning team, Ingram had sought a delay in an eight-year prison sentence to watch his son's freshman season at Alabama.

Ingram's arrest Friday came just before Alabama's 31-17 loss to Utah in the Sugar Bowl. His son, also named Mark, is a star running back for the Crimson Tide.

The elder Ingram, who spent six of his 10 NFL seasons with the Giants, will face additional charges related to his flight.

Ingram was sentenced in September after he was convicted of trying to launder $100,000 for people he thought were drug dealers in an FBI sting operation.
