Giants RB Jacobs eager to tackle Eagles

Jan 7, 2009 - 9:49 PM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- A couple of weeks off has done wonders for New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.

Jacobs on Wednesday said he is raring to go for Sunday's divisional round matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

A pair of knee injuries had forced Jacobs to miss three of the last six games, including the regular-season finale, for the reigning Super Bowl champs.

"The difference today is that I can go out and run full speed and I can make harder cuts," Jacobs said. "I'm ready to go. I feel real good; I feel real good about our situation and where we are right now. I am just going to wait for the game to begin."

Jacobs, who has rushed for 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns, has been battling a sore left knee. He suffered the injury in a 20-14 loss to, ironically, the Eagles on December 7.

After sitting out the following week's loss to Dallas, Jacobs returned to the lineup and scored three touchdowns in an overtime win over Carolina that wrapped up the top seed in the NFC.

"I'm wired. You have to think about it. I didn't do anything for the past two weeks," Jacobs said. "I feel like my production has been down when I have played. I want to come out and be able to produce and help my team win. And I want to have everybody fired up."

Jacobs rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries in the previous meeting against Philadelphia before leaving with the injury.

The 6-4, 265-pounder had a monster game in the season's first matchup with Philly, pounding out 126 yards and two touchdowns in New York's 36-31 victory.

"He is a physical presence. He is a guy that we count on to set the physical edge," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "And we are looking forward to getting him back in the lineup, obviously."
