Legwand, Turco, Malkin named NHL's Three Stars
Jan 22, 2007 - 7:18 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- David Legwand added another accomplishment to his career season.The Nashville Predators center was named one of the NHL's Three Stars of the Week on Monday.
Dallas Stars All-Star goaltender Marty Turco was awarded the second star while Pittsburgh Penguins rookie sensation Evgeni Malkin was named third star.
The second overall draft selection in 1998, Legwand has not recorded more than 48 points in any of his first seven seasons in the NHL.
But the veteran center has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2006-07, scoring a team-leading 18 goals and 42 points through just 46 games.
The 26-year-old Legwand scored a league-leading five goals and nine points in four games this past week. He capped his outstanding week with his first career hat trick in Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Turco went 3-0-0 with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage this past week. He recorded his 161st career win with the Stars in Saturday's 2-1 shootout triumph over Minnesota, passing Ed Belfour for first on the franchise's all-time list.
A six-year veteran, Turco is 24-15-1 with a 2.26 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 42 appearances this season.
Malkin recorded two tallies and six assists in leading the Penguins to a 2-0-1 record this past week. The Russian rookie registered a season-high five assists in Saturday's 8-2 victory over Toronto.
The second overall pick in the 2004 draft, the 20-year-old Malkin leads all NHL rookies with 24 goals and 52 points in 42 games this season.
