Heatley, Crosby, Luongo named NHL's "Three Stars" of Month

Feb 2, 2007 - 1:22 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Dany Heatley's fabulous month has not gone unrecognized.

The left wing of the Ottawa Senators, who led the NHL in scoring in January, was named the league's "First Star" for the month Thursday.

Pittsburgh Penguins superstar center Sidney Crosby and Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo rounded out the "Three Stars" honors for January.

Heatley recorded 11 goals and 11 assists in 13 games last month, registering seven multi-point performances - including a four-point effort in a 6-3 victory over Buffalo on January 3. The 26-year-old, who also led the league with a plus-14 rating, has team highs of 31 goals, 10 power-play tallies, 36 assists and 67 points this season.

Crosby trailed Heatley by just one point in January, notching eight goals and 13 assists in 12 games. The 19-year-old, who leads the NHL in scoring with 79 points, recorded at least one in 11 of the 12 contests and ended the month with a seven-game points streak.

The leading vote-getter for last week's All-Star Game, Crosby registered six multi-point games, including a four-point effort in a 7-2 triumph over Phoenix on Tuesday, and netted a pair of game-winning goals.

Luongo was stellar in net for the Canucks, going 8-1-2 with one shutout, a 1.86 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage in 11 games. The 27-year-old allowed fewer than three goals in eight of the contests and made 30 saves against Montreal on January 16 en route to his third shutout of the season.
