Bruins F Savard sees concussion specialist

Mar 9, 2010 - 12:17 AM BOSTON(AP) -- Boston Bruins center Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a grade two concussion after being leveled by a blindside hit by Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke in Sunday's game.

General manager Peter Chiarelli said Monday that team doctor Peter Asnis and a concussion specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital evaluated and diagnosed Savard.

The Bruins medical staff will continue to monitor and evaluate Savard for up to five days before they offer an update on his prognosis.

Savard had just taken a shot from above the circles when Cooke came from behind, raised his shoulder and struck Savard in the head. Savard was prone on the ice for several minutes before being carried off.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said after the game he considered it a "dirty hit." No penalty was called.
