Vokoun to stay in goal for Game 3
Jun 5, 2013 - 9:18 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tomas Vokoun will remain the starter between the pipes when the scuffling Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to climb out of an 0-2 series hole in Wednesday's Game 3 of the team's Eastern Conference finals matchup with the Boston Bruins.Vokoun has started nine consecutive times since replacing a struggling Marc- Andre Fleury in Game 5 of the Penguins' opening-round series with the New York Islanders, but was pulled by head coach Dan Bylsma after allowing three goals on 12 shots over 17 minutes of Monday's 6-1 shellacking at the hands of the Bruins in Pittsburgh.
Fleury didn't fare much better upon relieving Vokoun in Game 2, stopping just 14-of-17 chances in the lopsided loss.
Vokoun has been solid overall during the Penguins' playoff run, posting a 2.26 goals against average and a .929 save percentage while going 6-3-0 in his nine starts. Fleury has recorded a 3.51 GAA and .883 save percentage in five games in this year's postseason.
"Looking for a solid game from our goaltender," said Bylsma in announcing his decision. "We've gotten that from Tomas in virtually every game he's played. We don't need perfection. We're looking for a solid game between the pipes from our goalie and allow our team to win the hockey game."
The Penguins have won in each of their last six visits to TD Garden, including a 3-2 decision in their only stop there during this year's regular season.
