Penguins RW Sykora out 5-7 days

Sep 22, 2007 - 11:51 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- One day after the right wing underwent a surgical procedure, the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday announced they will be without Petr Sykora for five to seven days.

Sykora, who suffered a broken nose during a preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, had a successful realignment procedure performed Friday. He will not participate in practice for up to seven days and his status for Pittsburgh's final two exhibition contests next weekend is uncertain.

Signed as a free agent in July, Sykora recorded his eighth career 20-goal season in 2006-07, netting 22 tallies and adding 31 assists in 82 games with Edmonton. The 30-year-old Czech has collected 247 goals and 565 points in 764 career contests with New Jersey, Anaheim, the New York Rangers and the Oilers.

Drafted 18th overall by the Devils in 1995, Sykora was a member of New Jersey's Stanley Cup-winning team in 2000. He also helped the Ducks reach the Finals in 2003 and represented his country at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
