Report: Penguins C Malkin misses practice Friday
Nov 10, 2007 - 1:11 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin did not participate in practice Friday due to a sore knee, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.The Calder Trophy winner last season, Malkin is expected to play in the Penguins' contest against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, however.
Drafted second overall in 2004, Malkin has recorded five goals and a league-leading 16 points in 16 games this season. The 21-year-old Russian currently has a nine-game points streak, registering three tallies and 11 assists during the run.
Last campaign, Malkin collected 33 goals and 85 points in 78 games en route to top rookie honors.
The Tribune-Review also reported defenseman Ryan Whitney is expected to return to Pittsburgh's lineup Saturday. The 24-year-old, who has three goals and three assists in 12 games this season, has missed the Penguins' last four contests with a groin injury.
