Penguins G Fleury out 6-8 weeks

Dec 12, 2007 - 7:20 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for up to two months.

The Penguins announced Wednesday that Fleury will be sidelined six to eight weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Fleury, 23, suffered the injury last Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames and has not played since. The Sorel, Quebec native was examined Wednesday morning by team physician Dr. Chip Burke.

The top overall draft selection in 2003, Fleury has played 21 games for the Penguins this season, posting a 9-8-1 record with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.

Danny Sabourin figures to serve as the primary replacement for Fleury. A 27-year-old native of Val d'Or, Quebec, Sabourin is 6-5-1 with a 2.50 GAA and .912 save percentage in 14 games - 10 starts - for the Penguins this season.

Fleury enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2006-07, going 40-16-9 with a 2.83 GAA and a .906 save percentage - all career bests.

The Penguins also announced Wednesday that center Maxime Talbot will miss up to four weeks with an ankle injury.

Talbot, 23, has seven goals and 11 points in 24 games this season. The Lemoyne, Quebec native suffered the injury Saturday in a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
