Gaborik headlines Three Stars

Dec 24, 2007 - 7:20 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After becoming the first player in 11 years to score five goals in a game, Minnesota Wild right wing Marian Gaborik was named the NHL's "First Star of the Week" on Monday.

Also honored were Atlanta Thrashers goaltender Kari Lehtonen and Nashville Predators center Jason Arnott.

Gaborik accomplished his feat in Minnesota's 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Wednesday. He is the first player to register five goals in a game since Detroit's Sergei Fedorov on December 26, 1996.

Gaborik, who has scored a team-high 18 goals this season, matched an NHL high with eight points on six goals and two assists in a 2-1 week for the Wild.

Lehtonen earned "Second Star" status after winning all four starts and posting a 1.96 goals-against average last week.

His best performance of the week came in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout victory over the Montreal Canadiens, when he made 37 saves and stopped both attempts in the shootout.

Arnott, the league's "Third Star", registered eight points in four games, recording four goals and four assists as the Predators went 2-2.
