Getzlaf named NHL's "First Star"

Jan 21, 2008 - 6:06 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- For the first time in his career, Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf was named the NHL's "First Star of the Week" on Monday.

Getzlaf, 22, is the first Duck to be named "First Star" - formerly known as "Player of the Week" - since Teemu Selanne was honored on March 26, 2006. Getzlaf led all scorers with eight points during the past week, recording points in each game as Anaheim won three of four contests.

Getzlaf's best game of the stretch came Friday when he had three assists in a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Getzlaf ran his current points streak to 14 games and is in eighth place in scoring with 57 points.

Also honored Monday were Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Johan Holmqvist and Philadelphia Flyers left wing Scott Hartnell.

Holmqvist was named "Second Star" after posting back-to-back shutouts in his two starts during the week, stopping all 52 shots as the Lightning registered road wins at Pittsburgh and Ottawa.

Hartnell was named "Third Star" for the second consecutive week, posting six points in three games. He totaled five goals and one assist in three wins for the Flyers, including his second hat trick in six games in a 5-3 victory against New York Islanders on Saturday.
