Iginla named NHL's "First Star"

Mar 17, 2008 - 5:26 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla on Monday was named the NHL's "First Star" of the week.

Also honored were Pittsburgh Penguins right wing Petr Sykora and Florida Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun.

Iginla notched five goals and eight points in four games as the Flames (37-25-10) ended the week tied with the Minnesota Wild (38-26-8) and Colorado Avalanche (39-28-6) for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

The 30-year-old All-Star tallied at least one goal in each contest on the week as Calgary posted a 2-2-0 record.

Iginla, who ranks third in the league with 45 goals and 87 points, became the franchise's all-time leading goal scorer last Monday in a 7-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Sykora, the week's "Second Star", notched three goals and six points in two contests. He registered the game-winner in Wednesday's 7-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres and Sunday's 7-1 triumph over the rival Philadelphia Flyers.

Sykora totalled 25 goals for the ninth consecutive season as the Penguins (41-24-7) climbed to within one point of the New Jersey Devils (42-24-6) for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Vokoun earned the week's "Third Star" honor after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.67 goals-against average as the Panthers extended their winning streak to seven games.
