Lightning C Lecavalier undergoes surgery

Apr 16, 2008 - 1:20 AM TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier underwent successful right shoulder surgery Tuesday and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in the fall.

Lecavalier, who suffered a dislocated shoulder on April 3 against Washington and missed Tampa Bay's season finale at Atlanta two days later, had his glenoid labrum repaired by Dr. James Andrews at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Eastern Conference captain at this year's All-Star Game, Lecavalier was injured when he was checked into teammate Michel Ouellet by Washington's Matt Cooke in the third period of a 4-1 loss. He will undergo a detailed rehabilitation program, which will be supervised by the Lightning's medical staff.

Lecavalier, 27, finished the season as Tampa Bay's leading scorer with 40 goals and 92 points in 81 games.
