Holmstrom out for Game Four

Jun 1, 2008 - 12:14 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings left wing Tomas Holmstrom participated in Saturday morning's skate but was held out of the lineup for Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After missing two days of practice due to a sore hamstring, Holmstrom was optimistic following the morning practice. But coach Mike Babcock elected to rest the Swede and replace him with rugged right wing Darren McCarty, who was a healthy scratch for Games Two and Three of the series.

The 35-year-old Holmstrom suffered the injury late in the third period of Detroit's 3-2 loss in Game Three on Wednesday, when he was knocked down by Pittsburgh defenseman Hal Gill with 5:50 remaining in the third period.

Holmstrom has recorded four goals and eight assists in 19 games this postseason.

The Red Wings hold a two-games-to-one advantage in the best-of-seven championship series.
