Report: Malkin expecting extension
Jun 13, 2008 - 8:31 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin said he expects to sign a contract extension to stay with the team, according to a report published Friday by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.Malkin, who has one year left on his original contract, told the paper that he expects to sign an extension "soon" after July 1, when the Penguins are eligible to extend his contract.
"I'm thinking maybe five or six years," Malkin told the Tribune-Review. "I'm an easy guy to deal with. I'd love to stay in Pittsburgh."
The Penguins did not comment on the report when contacted by PA SportsTicker.
Malkin, 21, helped the Penguins reach the Stanley Cup Finals after finishing second in the league in points with 106 this season, his second in the league.
The Hart Trophy finalist had 22 points in 20 postseason games for Pittsburgh, which lost to the Detroit Red Wings in six games.
