Penguins re-sign LW Dupuis

Jul 1, 2008 - 7:50 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday re-signed left wing Pascal Dupuis to a three-year contract.

The Penguins did not release financial terms for Dupuis, but according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the deal is worth $4.2 million.

One of the Penguins' other free agents, defenseman Mark Eaton, also re-signed with the team Tuesday, agreeing to a two-year contract.

Dupuis, 29, was acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers in the deal that also brought Marian Hossa to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. Dupuis was a key contributor during the Penguins' run to the Stanley Cup Finals as a role player, recording two goals and five assists in 20 playoff games.

Dupuis was one of the Penguins' 10 unrestricted free agents. The two biggest are Hossa, generally considered the top forward on the market, and defenseman Brooks Orpik. Hossa may be able to command an average salary of close to $10 million.

Dupuis is entering his eighth season, having recorded 174 points in 435 career games with the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Thrashers and Penguins.

Eaton, 31, played in only 36 games last season, recording three assists before suffering a season-ending knee injury against the Boston Bruins on December 23.

Eaton entered the NHL as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1999. He spent five seasons with the Nashville Predators before signing with the Penguins on July 3, 2006.
