PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins signed left wing Ruslan Fedotenko to a one-year contract on Thursday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN of Canada reported the deal is worth $2.5 million.
The addition of Fedotenko could help offset the loss of four-time All-Star forward Marian Hossa, who signed a one-year contract with the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday after helping lead the Penguins to this year's Finals.
Fedotenko, 29, recorded 16 goals and 17 assists with the New York Islanders last season, his first with the team. The Ukrainian led the Islanders with a career-high eight power-play goals.
The 6-2, 195-pound Fedotenko has scored 13 goals in 53 career playoff games and was a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning's championship team in 2004, netting both tallies in a 2-1 triumph over the Calgary Flames in Game Seven of the Finals.
"I think Ruslan is going to be able to play, as he has throughout his NHL career, on the top three lines," Penguins general manager Ray Shero said. "He can play anywhere in the lineup, so I think that's going to be a good addition for us. He has size and he's won a Stanley Cup and been a good contributor in the league."
Nicknamed "The Tank," Fedotenko has collected 123 goals and 116 assists in 532 career games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Lightning and Islanders.
