Report: Lightning trade D Boyle

Jul 4, 2008 - 4:19 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded veteran defensive Dan Boyle to the San Jose Sharks, TSN of Canada reported Friday.

According to TSN, Boyle, 31, waived the no-trade clause in his contract and agreed to the deal, which is subject to approval from the NHL.

In return, the Lightning would receive 23-year-old defenseman Matt Carle and two draft picks. Citing sources, TSN reported that Tampa Bay defenseman Brad Lukowich also is going to San Jose.

A member of Tampa Bay's Stanley Cup-winning team in 2004, Boyle signed a six-year, $40 million extension just before the trade deadline in February.

Boyle scored a career-high 20 goals for the Lightning in 2006-07, but he was the victim of a bizarre accident that limited him to just four goals in 37 games last season. His wrist was cut from a skate that fell on him in the locker room.

Taken by the Sharks in the second round of the 2003 draft, Carle will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2007-08 campaign. He registered just two goals and 13 assists in 62 contests.
