Penguins acquire D Richmond

Jul 18, 2008 - 2:28 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond from the Chicago Blackhawks for the rights to center Tim Brent on Thursday.

Both players are restricted free agents.

The 23-year-old Richmond appeared in seven games with the Blackhawks last season, recording two penalty minutes and a minus-5 rating. He added two goals and 12 assists in 40 contests with Rockford of the American Hockey League.

A second-round pick of Carolina in 2003, the 6-foot, 194-pounder has collected three assists and 75 penalty minutes in 49 career games with the Hurricanes and Blackhawks. Richmond also has amassed 24 goals, 64 assists and 541 penalty minutes in 223 AHL contests.

Acquired from Anaheim in June 2007, Brent played in one game for Pittsburgh last season, posting a minus-1 rating. The 24-year-old spent the majority of the campaign with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, registering 18 goals and 43 assists in 74 contests.

Selected by the Ducks in the second round of the 2002 draft, the 6-foot, 197-pound Brent made his NHL debut with the club in 2006-07, notching one goal and six penalty minutes in 15 games.
