Flames sign LW Roy
Jul 21, 2008 - 12:52 AM CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Calgary Flames signed free agent left wing Andre Roy on Sunday.Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Roy has played eight seasons in the NHL, recording 32 goals and 33 assists in 471 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators. He was a member of the Lightning when the team won the Stanley Cup in 2004.
"Andre is a player with a Stanley Cup championship, who provides us with a dimension that is still important in the league," Flames general manager Darryl Sutter said. "It was our goal to replace that aspect on our team, and we felt it was better to do it now than to trade for it as we go into camp."
The 6-3, 200-pound left wing had four tallies, three assists and 108 penalty minutes in 63 games for the Lightning last season.
