RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Michael Leighton stopped all 21 shots he faced and Sergei Samsonov recorded the only goal of the game as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 1-0, on Sunday.
Samsonov took a feed from Patrick Eaves and beat Jean-Sebastien Aubin with a wrist shot from the left of the net 8:20 into the opening frame. Casey Borer also was credited with an assist on the goal.
Leighton turned back 17 shots over the final two periods to preserve the lead.
The Hurricanes outshot the Flyers, 35-21. Aubin made 18 saves and Scott Munroe turned back all 16 shots he faced for Philadelphia.
Mike Richards, Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble were among the inactive players for the Flyers. Ray Whitney and Tuomo Ruutu sat out for Carolina.
